The Shot To Die For An MP5 CIA Series Thriller Book 2 edition by MH Sargent Literature Fiction eBooks
The Shot to Die For is cleverly titled and well written. It begins with the abduction of an Iraqi photographer by terrorists, for no apparent reason. Only later, as friends in the US forces begin searching for him, does it come to light that the photographer has taken a picture of someone whom no one was supposed to see. From this intriguing opening, author M.H. Sargent leads readers on a fast-paced ride that touches on many of today's current news topics, including the bank crisis, the war in Iraq and the long-standing hostilities between the Israelis and the Palestinians. The characters are well drawn and, while I am not familiar with what daily life is like in Iraq, the details of the plot are convincing and appear to be grounded in reality.
The ending of this novel seemed a bit predictable to me, but overall The Shot to Die For is an entertaining and worthwhile read.

The Shot To Die For An MP5 CIA Series Thriller Book 2 edition by MH Sargent Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
After reading Seven Days from Sunday, I was excited to see that M.H. Sargent had a follow-up book. At first, I wasn't sure about the stories being set in the midst of the war in Iraq (we get enough of that on the news), but the setting took a back seat to the characters and plots. These books are great reads for a great price! I love the style of this author...fast-paced, easy-to-read, can't-put-it-down. I hope there's a 3rd book & that M.H. Sargent becomes a huge, best-selling author because I want to be able to say that I read his first 2 books waaaay before anyone else.
Because I read a lot, I am now reading the 6th book in this series. There's no way I can now specifically review book #2 of the series.
I like them all very much and would highly recommend them to anyone who likes exciting spy type thrillers. The action is more based on sneaky, clever activities than shooting people. If you like this kind of genre, I highly recommend that you start at book #1 in the series.
After reading the first book in the series, I immediately purchased this one and have since purchased the next two books. That should tell you how much I like the series. Each of the main characters have a personality and traits that continued through the two books I've read. I liked this story a little more than the first one, but that may because I understand the characters better and it makes reading easier. I'm looking forward to reading all of the books in this series.
MH Sargent tells very plausible, detailed, action-filled stories that are full of dangerous jihadis. His writing style is smooth, easily read, and technically proficient. His heroes are interesting, and likeable, and his antagonists are true to life.
If you are a fan of military/political intrigue, Sargent will be right up your alley.
I would like to see his characters both friend and foe, made a little more real through deeper background developement.
I was very impressed with The Shot To Die For; this book is truly a value at less than $3. M. H. Sargent paints a very vivid picture of Iraq and the dangers facing the military, CIA, as well ordinary Iraqi citizens. The cast of characters are easily likable, as a reader you find yourself rooting for them, hoping that each mission the author sends them on will keep them with you throughout the book. I feel M. H. Sargent has succeeded in bringing global headlines to life in this book. I've read various reports in newspapers and magazines about the events that are taking place in that part of the world. This book puts those events in context. The story shows the interplay of real world politics and clashing world views in the lives of the book's characters. The scenarios are believable, the reasoning behind events in the book feels like "ripped from the headlines" reality. And while very realistic, I did appreciate that the book was not "over the top" in it's violent depictions. Yes, the war is portrayed and violence is part of that, however, it did not seem that the author let the violence itself drive the book. I am looking forward to reading the other two books in this series and hope to see continued work from this author.
Another totally amazing read The Shot To Die For the other reviewers are correct this book was as wonderful as the first book Seven Days From Sunday
The setting is Irag and all the players are back, all the twist and turns of this suspenseful thriller are back.
So settle in for another thrilling ride by M.H.Sargent.
Then late last night right after I finished 'the shot to die for' I found another book by him Operation Spider Web so purchased it as well.
You cannot believe that this man sells his books for .99 when the writing is so wonderful. a must read.

Another great read from M.H. Sargent. This is the second book in a series that has the same characters as Seven Days from Sunday. Although I have read Seven Days, what I like about The Shot to Die For, is that you don't have to have read the previous book to enjoy the characters. Each one is fully explained again, but not in a redundant manner. McKay, Gonz, Heisman, Ghaniya, Adnan, Thamer, and all of the characters are so believable and all tie in very nicely. It makes for a suspenseful read with a lot of twists and turns. I was on the edge of my seat pretty much the entire book.
The only thing I did not understand (which was not enough to lower my rating) was that towards the beginning of the book, there is a female insurgent who seems to have a lot of power and control, which is very uncharacteristic for women in this culture. Sargent even talks about how women are subservient to the men. But, this woman's power position is never really explained. I would have liked to known more about her and why she was in a position of power in a male dominated environment.
At $2.99, this is well worth the money. I have already purchased Operation Spider Web and will be starting it after I write this review.
I can't wait to see what Sargent comes up with next!
